I managed to nab some tickets young SKy had won on a V radio competition to see the Who at Wembley Arena (no, not stadium :() and they were incredible in the extreme. They’ve been on tour since last year and this was their last UK location on tour which meant we got a pretty damned sexy 45 minute encore- apparently not what the other locations had received.
The two performed like gods from start to finish, playing mainly their oldies, some from Quadrophenia and some of their new stuff (not so great). They lasted a good 3 hours, on top of the Charlatans comparitively shit backing performance which lasted 30minutes or so. Baba O’Riley was undoubtably the best live song I have ever heard, even beating Rolf Harris’s attempt at Stairway To Heaven :O.
Their tour finishes the 9th of July in Helsinki, God I’d love to see that one.
After that I was left with a night and a day in London with Dan Thompson. We stayed with the YHA literally less than 50m from St. Pauls Cathedral. A bloody good position, I must say. That cost us just £16.50 and we arrived in the middle of the night, waking up two Australian guys but they got us back by waking us at 5am… tossers. Breakfast was supplied with the night which had a pretty nice selection. The whole deal, booked just 30 hours in advance, cost us just £16.50 each.
We wondered through London for a few hours (oddly to both the places those bombs were found :S) and it was all good fun. Caught the train back (FREE FIRST CLASS TICKETS) and had we gone the day before we’d have been sitting with Tony Blair.
Such fun. Such fun.
